Gränges’ Niklas Broberg takes charge to strengthen Sweden’s aluminum industry

Niklas Broberg, MD, Gränges Finspång AB, is the new chairman of the trade organization Svenskt Aluminium (Swedish Aluminium). It is the first time that a representative of Gränges holds the chairmanship.

Congratulations to the appointment, what does Swedish Aluminum actually do?
"Svenskt Aluminum is an industry association with about 50 member companies and a total of around 10,000 employees, of which Gränges is one of the largest. Our shared vision is to strengthen the Swedish aluminum industry by focusing on sustainability, competence supply, research and innovation as well as political influence. Together, we must create the best possible conditions for sustainable and competitive development of our industry."

What's on the agenda?
"Exactly that. To work together for a stronger aluminum industry of its own. If we had been organized together with other major metal industries such as steel, we would probably have had a harder time influencing. With 50 member companies of various types, we can work cross-sector with issues that concern and affect our industry, for example laws and regulations, and economic and labor market policy."

What does this mean for Gränges?
"We can contribute a lot within innovation, with our own expertise but also by providing materials. After all, we are one of the largest member companies and the only roller. The academy - colleges and universities - are also part of Swedish Aluminum and by being an active part of research projects, we thereby participate in the industry-wide research that is conducted. Recycling companies are also among the members, an important area where we can develop solutions together. Swedish Aluminum is also a tool to strengthen the supply of competence and the conditions for our industry."
