A business controller with a soft spot for ice-cream

Meet Simon Ruteby, Business Controller at Gränges HQ in Stockholm. Born and raised in in both in Sweden and Finland, he started working for Gränges in January of 2019.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your background

I studied accounting and commercial law at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki. After completing my studies, I worked in Finland for a couple of years and moved to Stockholm in 2017. I spent almost three years in auditing, mainly in the banking and financial services industry, before switching to Gränges in the beginning of 2019.

So, why Gränges?

I became interested in manufacturing companies when I worked at an automotive financing company in Helsinki during my studies.

What fascinates me about the automotive industry is the cutting-edge technology and the great impact it has on global economies. In Gränges’ case, I was impressed by the company’s efforts in products and innovation and its focus on sustainability.

What does a typical day look like for you and what are you currently working on?

In short, I follow up on financial results and monitor company profitability. I do financial analyses, forecasting and develop business processes together with other departments in the company. My daily work consists of working closely with my colleagues on financial research and operational improvement. Together we identify financial risk, analyze the overall performance of the company and report the findings to the senior management to support them in their decision-making.

What do you like most about your job? What’s the best with working at Gränges?

The best with working at Gränges is to work together with talented colleagues in a high-achieving but easygoing environment. As a business controller, I work with different departments and colleagues from around the world. This is a great way to learn the business.

If you could change one thing about working here, what would it be?

The first thing that pops into my mind is that it would be nice to have an ice-cream freezer so that we could enjoy some ice-cream on the terrace during hot summer days.

And finally, what do you do when you’re not at work?

At the moment, my girlfriend and I are busy decorating our new apartment. We spend most of our weekends strolling around in vintage shops and exploring our new neighborhood – usually together with our dog.

I was impressed by the company’s efforts in products and innovation and its focus on sustainability.
